One way to get a very nice Lusitano for an affordable price is to buy the horse while it is young. If you have the knowledge and skills to train your own horse and/or a trainer that can help you with the process this can be very rewarding! You do not have to wait until your horse is 3-4 years old to begin your training.
By starting with a young horse you can build trust early on and teach your young horse how to be calm and bold around obstacles, how to have a bath, go new places, etc.. By the time you are ready to begin under saddle work you and your horse already know each other well. I have found this to be very enjoyable and satisfying.
